AND TOURING ENSEMBLE

San Francisco, CA

Back 2 Basics (B2B) is a dynamic musical duo formed by longtime collaborators Eddie Mininfield and John Paris, two world-class musicians whose individual careers have been nothing short of legendary. Known for their mastery of R&B, funk, soul, smooth jazz and pop, B2B combines deep-rooted musicianship with a contemporary sound that resonates with listeners across generations. The journey of Back 2 Basics began in the San Francisco Bay area, where Eddie and John first met as teenagers. At just 15 years old, they started playing together in Top 40 bands, forging a lifelong friendship and musical chemistry that would later define their careers. Their early performances in clubs and venues across California and Japan not only honed their skills but also laid the groundwork for their extraordinary individual successes.

Eddie Mininfield is a celebrated saxophonist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist renowned for his soulful sound, electrifying stage presence, and improvisational brilliance. His career spans decades, performing and recording with music’s greatest icons, including Prince, Stevie Nicks, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and more. Eddie’s ability to move seamlessly across genres has made him a sought-after collaborator, contributing to the success of luminaries such as Wayman Tisdale, Acoustic Alchemy, and Eric Benét. Beyond his work as a collaborator, Eddie has earned acclaim as a solo artist, releasing albums that showcase his signature blend of sophistication and soul. Whether captivating audiences on global stages or crafting music in the studio, Eddie’s artistry continues to leave an indelible mark on the industry.

As the powerhouse drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, John Paris has mesmerized audiences worldwide with his rhythmic precision, soulful energy, and unparalleled versatility. His career includes performances and recordings with some of music’s most legendary figures, including Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, Donna Summer, Natalie Cole, and many others. In addition to his work with Earth, Wind & Fire, John is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter whose contributions span live performances, studio recordings, and television. Whether driving the rhythm on stage or crafting intricate compositions in the studio, John’s artistry is a testament to his passion and mastery.

After decades of individual accomplishments, Eddie and John decided to return to their roots by forming Back 2 Basics. More than just a name, B2B reflects their shared philosophy: “Pure Roots, True Sound” - a commitment to authenticity, passion, and the fundamentals of great music. Their debut single, “After the Game,” is a heartfelt tribute to the late NBA star and musician Wayman Tisdale, blending their signature style with a touch of nostalgia. Their latest release, “Manhattan Blue,” showcases their seamless fusion of smooth jazz and R&B, with Grammy-winning producer Derek ‘DOA’ Allen lending his expert touch. Both tracks exemplify their ability to create music that is sophisticated yet soulful, resonating deeply with their audiences.

Back 2 Basics represents a return to the essence of their artistry, blending intricate melodies, rich instrumentation, and timeless authenticity. Their music transcends trends, connecting listeners on an emotional level and celebrating the universal power of sound. With a shared passion for music education and a dedication to inspiring future generations, Eddie Mininfield and John Paris are more than just collaborators - they’re musical pioneers and lifelong friends. Back 2 Basics invites audiences on a journey of pure artistry, where tradition meets innovation, and the heart of music shines through.
