Patrick Sampson

SINGER-SONGWRITER, GUITARIST

New York, NY

Like a silk-lined cedar chest, Patrick Sampson’s unique voice holds and communicates the precious treasures of life’s most moving moments. He comfortably draws in audiences with just a single familiar phrase. While often lauded for his voice, skillful finger-picking provides a lush complement to the vocal melodies that beckon audiences of numerous genres.

Patrick doesn’t just write for the sake of creating or performing—music is a connective force for this curious young artist, a way to build community while also helping others connect to the truths within themselves. Patrick writes with an open heart, believing that each of his songs has its own life, its own path into the psyches of listeners all over the world. Part spiritual, part alchemical, the transformations that occur in those moments of penning a brilliant lyric and sharing it with others through honest, unguarded performances are what inspire his journey day in and day out.

A distinct and emotive pop sensibility reflects many of Patrick’s influences—Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, and Ben Howard—while hints of Americana and folk reflect others like Gregory Alan Isakov, Foy Vance, and Gary Clark, Jr.  With three full-length albums under his belt (2023’s Knitting Blue, 2020’s Altrové, and 2016’s The Wanderer), Patrick’s newest singles are calling in a new chapter for the troubadour, who has enjoyed a recent foray into collaborative songwriting. His newest single, “Paper Planes” (out July 18, 2024) was written with the feather-voiced Czechian artist &Tilly.

“I released the single ‘Airport Song’ in spring—something in it was nagging at me to get it out, even though I wasn’t planning on recording and releasing anything at the time,” says Patrick. “The song connected with a lot of my listeners, and it kickstarted my creativity. I began writing more new music for my next album, as well as co-writing with some amazing artists in a couple of collaborative efforts that I’m very excited to share.”

A native of Watertown, New York, Patrick tours regularly across the US, making sure his audiences have a song they can turn to in any moment of life. His live shows offer the best of both worlds; sometimes he silences crowds with a moving, contemplative ballad or lyrical folk narrative, while other songs invoke sing-a-longs and blues-rock jams. Patrick uses music to connect with audiences—”newfound friends” as he calls them—through the somber times and the joyous ones.

Years of touring and a contagiously kind spirit have established an impressive fanbase for Patrick. Patrick  loves God, his wife, and his pitbull and is happy to talk with anyone about his immense appreciation of the “galaxy far, far away” and about how Star Wars has impacted his life and fully tattooed left arm. He’s endorsed by Gretsch guitars.

PRESS

"Patrick is an itinerant 24-year-old singer-songwriter who is building an audience the old-school way, one show at a time. He has quite a range of songs—some upbeat, some melancholy; some very thoughtful, some more playful. He was a big hit with my guests, many of whom told me that they want to see him back. Patrick and his father/manager ("dadager") Ed were delightful to work with and communicated very well. I look forward to hosting them again."

- B. Melendez, April 2024

"Patrick was awesome! He put on a great show and went out of his way to really interact with everyone who came! It was a great way to kick off house concerts in our new place! Hopefully we get a chance to host him again!" - G. Cohen, April, 2024

"WHAT A TALENT!!! This young man is so diverse in his gifts and range of music. He is someone to keep an eye on, he will be a presence for sure.He also is a delight, personable and thoughtful. His father helps and it isn't a stretch to see where his gifts originate. Book him now, while you can."

- H. Dahlhauser, April 2024

- M. Ilac Boeder, December, 2023

"Patrick Sampson is already a seasoned performer at age 24, his songwriting is powerful and varied. His guitar playing is excellent, and his use of special pedals for sound effects is well done; I had wondered how he’d sound without his band adding drums and bass etc. But there was no need for any band. Patrick has a unique and clear voice which makes him stand out in this world of so many singer/songwriters, you want to listen to him. His style of playing are also varied, making a fine show."

- D. Mellin, December, 2023

"Great evening with Patrick to kick off our season. We were his first stop on tour, and his enthusiasm was thru the roof! His gracious dad, Ed, ran sound. Top notch playing, vocals and songwriting. He can play ballads and shred. He was very responsive to the audience - even placed requests from one person early in the program since they had to leave mid-concert. He was able to reconfigure his setlist to accommodate."

- M. Carlson, October, 2023

"Is there a nicer guy on the house concert circuit? Sure, maybe, but I'm not sure I've met him. It was a pleasure hosting Patrick (& his dad!). The right combo of singer/songwriter sensitivity and rock & roll grit. A great artist, all around. Highly recommended." - J. Chapman, July, 2023

"The Lobby Lounge hosted New York singer-songwriter Patrick Sampson for his first ever Louisiana performance. Patrick wowed our audience with 2+ hours of original music and some amazing guitar and looping skills. He’s an enthusiastic performer and draws the audience in to share his passion for music. Very professional, very responsive and excellent at pre-show social media promotion! We highly recommend Patrick Sampson for any size venue."
